readers' reviews - not-so-famous

This book will sell for $15.95 (USD). I haven't written my "official" review for First Look yet, but if you have a child, grandchild, or some one you care for that is going off to college, this is the best gift you can give them. It's written by professor’s who tell it like it is. No BS'ing your way through college and they give 4-Star Tips, Jeremy Remembers When, Review Sections, Hints and most importantly - how to approach your professors for whatever the purpose.

We spend millions each year in grants and parents fork out big bucks to get children through college. There will be more completion when one graduates from colleges and yes GPA's do matter these days. So, A's do count more than ever!

Most Important: This is a book for the student, but the parent needs to read it too, so they can remind their student of topics written about in this book. More Important: Don't send your student to college without making sure they have read this book. They will flounder in their first year at college and this book will guide them through. Yes, maybe your student was honor roll in high school, but college is an entirely different arena this book will prepare them for what professor's expect from the college student

I am so glad I got this book (it's an Advanced Reader's Copy). It is very insightful, and even though this semester is over, I am sure I will be able to put what it has shown me to test next semester!!

"Jeremy and Lynn are passionate teachers with an uncanny genius for making the most complex ideas clear and accessible to developing minds. This book on surviving college is a gift to college students everywhere."
-- Kim Kowsky, former student of Jeremy, freelance writer/editor, and former Los Angeles Times staff writer.

"Brutally honest, lots of fun, and refreshingly specific, Jacobs and Hyman scatter the clouds of confusion surrounding the pursuit of great grades and chart a practical path to success. Reading The Professors' Guide to Getting Good Grades in College is the ethical equivalent of using x-ray vision on your teacher's mind.

Jacobs and Hyman respect students far too much to pull any punches, but their warmth and humility are as powerful as their intellectual standards. They dispel the gossipy myths students tell themselves about their disappointing grades with gentleness and candor.

This book is perfect for students who are ready to do more than stumble their way to excellence but are not sure which step to take next. It is the Swiss Army knife of college learning tools."
-- Troy Smythe, former student of Lynn, and Principal, Smythe Consulting -- Adaptive Museum Planning and Research

"The book [...] is very helpful. It gives you two professor's views on mistakes students make and things you can do to get good grades. It's targeted to college Freshman at large universities, but it could work for anyone in college who feels they could be getting better grades.

I have read about 1/4 of the book today alone and I am loving what I have read. I am amazed that this book was only published this year and is the first edition of the book. I wish it was out when I was first entering college and maybe I would have made better decisions. It even tells you when you should drop a class and when you should do it. I feel like I've gain a good insight into things and I hope this book will motivate me into getting good grades this semester and help me have a better study and work ethic."
